I believe a weak attempt to play off of the 80's game show (Gong Show) where contestants that didn't measure up got "Gonged". (Like today's "X-X-X" of shows like AGT.)
It's writing like this that keep my magazine subscription $$ going to other magazines. C&D is more irrelevant every year... (IMHO).
