You don't have to remove the seats though it does make it easier for sure. If you have the factory leather seats you will have to cut the flaps for the top part of the seats to accommodate the heated seat wire.
Installing these I never swore so much in all my life and sweated like crazy (swear some of the sweat was tears!).
Only real drama I have with the covers is they change my driving position slightly due to the extra bulk and make it a little less comfortable as a result (I'm 6'6" so there is not much margin for error) but needed them on as I don't want to scuff the bolsters up prematurely
