I juuust went through this exact same situation. Dealership tried to tell me they always overfill, but I asked them to remove the extra oil anyways. Mine was over an inch above the line as well.

This dealership had something they used to suck the oil out from the dipstick hole I assume, because they didn't drain the pan and it took all of 5 minutes.

Make sure you check the oil on dead-level ground, apparently the level readings can change quite a bit if the car's not perfectly level.
