8" are flat faced, no concave. The hub is pretty deeply recessed though the spokes don't have much curvature to them.
Top: my 17x8+42
Bottom: Foobar's 17x9+35
Note how my spokes don't curve much from the hub while the 9" wheel spokes visibly curve out.
