Funny thing...I've done this on my own auto-x cars, Formula SAE, Legends car, and on RPM's Grand Am Porsches. On the Hooters cup Car and for Craftsman Trucks we could simply pre-load the springs (handy)....guess all of us motorsports engineers have been doing it wrong.
It should be used as a fine adjustment, though you'll see some desperate measurements at your local parking lot race.
