Hard to say. I make, er, emotional-based decisions. And not just about the drive. How I cope with retarded sales reps will factor in.

I'm anticipating that the FR-S is a vastly more direct, responsive and communicative car. But I've owned 4 (I can't count in the morning...)Mk3 Supras, 2 turbos, 1 twin turbo and an NA that was supposed to get a 2JZ swap that never happened. The Mk3 is roughly GenCoupe weight and wel,l turbos are nice. This all leads to the fact that I was very interested in the GenCoupe when it released, but the reviews were meh, and then I found out about this car. So if they un-meh the negative parts, it is still a type of car that I can enjoy.

That being said, my first car was a '92 SOHC VTEC Civic Si hatch. Bone stock except for 15" alloy rims. And the car was an absolute blast. The motor's response was awesome, only the short-stroke twin ceramic turbo 1JZ comes anywhere close (but it did have over 2X the power). So I can imagine a cross between a Mk3 Supra (RWD, wheelbase is close) and a Civic Si is what the FR-S may end up being.

So emotional response to drive. Then to salesman. Over $500? Hard to say still. Argh, I need a test drive...
