I think if it was done carefully, with a new version of the engine (higher revving, higher power, possibly lighter weight, DI?) pushed back as far as possible, possibly combined with some supporting mods (lighter front end? Stiffer chassis? Fatter tires?) and then sold as a BRZ STi, it would fit the idea of the 86 just fine. Even if it ended up weighing 30-50lb more, as long as the suspension and chassis was tuned for the higher power and more weight, and the weight distribution was maintained, I doubt it would be a problem. Actually, if that had been an option last spring, I would likely be driving one right now.

(I'm talking about a proper factory second engine option here, not just dropping an EZ30R in and calling it good)
