First thing that comes to mind is what I call "lazy leg". That's where I get lax and don't push the clutch pedal
all the way down.
The "play" in the shift lever is probably "normal", as things losen up with more use (within reason).
I notice that my car is a bit "notchy" when the transmission is cold. It seems to take several miles before it warms up and smooths out.
A fluid change may be in order, as long as its not replaced by the same stuff ....
