There really isn't much difference between 8" and 9" besides having the ability to go with a larger tire in the future, especially if you plan to go FI in the distant future. Powdercoating wheels is not quite recommended because the shop that does it for you may not have the proper method of painting your wheels. There is a concern for heat treating wheels properly and whether or not it will affect the integrity of the wheel.
