Again, it's really not. It's either a sign of authenticity OR a replica. The sticker doesn't mean jack in regards to the wheels being authentic.
I'm one of those that doesn't really care what others think though. If I show up with Rota's I'll think of how I can have street wheels, two sets of track wheels and multiple sets of tires for the cost of the volks that someone is scared to damage. I definately won't feel inferior to those people.
I've had Volks. They are nice wheels. I did not feel special because I had them and I autocrossed, DDd and tracked them just like any other wheel. They were de-stickered just like any other wheel too. They were light and looked nice. That's why I bought them.
