while you might be right (at the moment) on fuel and/or ignition cut off for turbo overboost, FI is not only turbo. There are lots of people on here who got superchargers.
Also, I'm not a specialist, but there are mechanical and electronic overboost protection devices/fuses which release boost to atmosphere, which some may prefer to abrupt fuel cutoff.
