He would most likely be in the same boat with Subaru, BMW, etc. He is 19 with limited credit and self employed. Which is why he keeps getting turned down for credit cards he is applying for.
Credit has definitely loosened up in recent years compared to 2008-2011, but banks are still being cautious with high risk individuals.
I don't think blaming the dealer is really the right move here. From what I can tell, the dealer was doing what they should be doing until the OP can get his credit rating higher and/or the OP is able to secure a better loan somewhere else. Most dealers don't want to lose your business over financing. They will almost always find a way to get you the lowest rate if you, as the buyer, have done your homework (as in you know your credit score and are already pre-approved for a low interest rate loan through a legitimate lender).
