i'm not sure the correct thing to do, all i know is i usually let it idle for about 30 seconds, until it stops misfiring, then drive slowly until i see the gauge where it should be
i know in my S2000, if you try to go above 6K when the engine isn't 100% warmed up, its like hitting a brick wall and you feel like you just broke your car, so there has to be some fact behind it
