You do realize every other intake is in a far off worse positioning than this mod, the Prova duct, HKS duct, and GruppeM duct right? All intakes that have their cone filters under the engine bay will provide no other benefit or better performance than a drop in filter. Spending 300 dollars for an intake that will gain you 1 more whp isnt worth it. Of all the parts you can mod on the car first I would do the intake last of the bolt on mods. If you decide to go FI then that is money saved already unless you get a FI that uses the stock air box as part of the turbo kit.
So far based off of what customer reviews and shops who have dyno'd some of these they provide the best consistent gains of all the other intakes. An intake like this that keeps the OEM air box means the gains it has will be consistent through out the dyno graph. Unlike other intakes that will have small drops here and there. Lots of intakes have slight drops in random areas or no gain at all. With this mod if its like any other car that uses the oem box it should either get no gain or gains only. You really think an intake that was made in a couple months would outperform the OEM air box that probably was worked on for MUCH longer and gone through multiple re designs before ending up with the design we have now. Its no surprise that for our cars a drop in filter is the best mod you can do and that all intakes show literally no benefit over a drop in other than sound/slight throttle response boost. Why do you think you see some FI kits still use the oem air box leaving it up to you to do what you want.
If your going to spend 300 bucks on an intake its better to just get a drop in filter and any sort of intake duct for around 200~ like the HKS or Max Racing duct. If you can afford it then get a GruppeM or Syms intake duct but IMO you might as well put that money towards a FI set up. If you cant/dont want to go FI then spend that money on headers/exhaust/mod then decide whether or not you think 900-2200 dollar intake is worth adding to what you currently have. In the end I bet most people would just get the drop in filter and call it a day.
That is why a duct will always be the best choice for a car that has a very well designed air box like this car or the s2000. Very rarely do intakes for this car have really shown us anything different from what we have already seen. They all give about 5-6 WHP unless it is a true CAI that gain around 10 whp like the FA20 or GruppeM that will both require a tune since they lean out the AFR so much.
