One big difference I see in these professions is that fatalities for these tend to occur by accident (car crashes, falling into a machine, drowning, falling off a roof or building). I wonder what the chart would look like by profession of those murdered by others for doing the job (military, cops, bank tellers, 7-11 clerks, maybe cab drivers). To me having a job where you have a higher risk of getting murdered while protecting others (military, fire, police, emts) is different than working at a dangerous job. Both can kill you, but one is a deliberate act and one is an accident (although some profession have both risks...cabbies, cops & military).
Found some interesting data on a quick internet search:
- In 2011, 72 law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty.
- In 2011, 53 law enforcement officers died as the result of accidents that occurred in the line of duty.
- Law enforcement agencies reported that 54,774 officers were assaulted while performing their duties in 2011.
- The rate of officer assaults in 2011 was 10.2 per 100 sworn officers.

I bet the military data would be very interesting too, but I did not readily find it.
This one is old, but seems like a very high risk of murder
and accident if you drive a limo/cab. I could not find rate of assault to compare to cops. I would also like to also see where the military ranks.
