You need to wastegate the centri otherwise you're going to overspin the charger at higher end.

You are correct that the complaint most folks have with centris is that peak boost is only achieved at redline with a linear growth from the bottom. Upgrading the system to allow hitting peak boost lower in the powerband (by way of smaller pulleys or other means) means that you'll overspin beyond that point. The wastegate bleeds off that excess boost so that the power growth is no longer linear, but more of a hockey stick - expands to peak before redline, then maintains that peak boost until the end.
