Other cars I considered:

C5 Z06
C6 Grand Sport -
S2000
NC Miata
Cayman S
Boss 302 or Mustang GT w/ brembo & track pack

After selling my Miata race car, I wanted a car that I could drive comfortably to the track on the weekends, and not need to trailer. I also wanted something that was reliable on track.

Ultimately I narrowed it down between the BRZ and the Boss 302 or Mustang GT w/ brembo and track pack. The C5 Z06 was just too old, C6 Grand Sports were still a bit too high in price and not enough selection in my price range, didn't like how tight of a cockpit the s2000 was, NC miata was going to take too much $$ to get it track prepped as the OEM suspension is horrible, I stopped my Cayman S search the second I looked at cost of consumables.

I then took a 2013 Mustang on track to get a feel for it, to see if it was something I could deal with, and absolutely hated it. Hood was too long, felt like I was driving a boat, steering felt disconnected from the car, and cornering speeds were awful, it was just too big and heavy of a car for me to enjoy driving on track. I went to the local Subaru dealership, took a BRZ for a test drive (ultimately the one I bought) and on my first long sweeping corner, I had the check book open.
