Well, actually not .....

My first vehicle was a 1937 Chevrolet pickup truck. It had a really worn out transmission (a 3 speed floor shift). 1st gear being positioned at the lower/left. You could hit second gear by pointing the floorboard shift lever towards the 11:00 to 2:00 o'clock position (1100 - 1400 hrs for you military folks).

My second car was a 1948 Chevrolet which had that new fangled column shift ......
