Age 70 here and I suggest you look into purchasing/making a center console armrest.
If your new car is a manual, be aware that the gear shifter slots are real close together ....... be especially careful on the downshift ....
. Unlike the old floor board shifters, where 2nd gear was anywhere from the steering column to the glove box ....
