Oh Come on guys. Given I AM an Aussie and living in Singapore I have the best perspective.
Granted Australia has cheaper housing (although Singapore has well priced HDB)....the interest rate for mortgages is over 7%!.....and only about 1-1.5% in Singapore. Do the maths.
Cars are definitely more expensive here in Singapore....but 10 year financing at nominal interest rates make monthly payments LESS than Australia.....not to mention PARF and COE rebates for early scrapping.
Oh....and then there's the BIG issue with working in Australia.....TAX! (if anyone in Singapore wants to pay 30-50% of their income to tax then be my guest).
It's all about taking the good with the bad.
