DIY: Tom's Racing hood damper
Please let me begin with a BIG THANKS to Will over at @
468Power
for obtaining these things.
I believe he may have 1 left!
YEAH....because JDM
Install Time: 20-30 mins
Tools Required:
12mm Socket & 3/8" ratchet
5mm Allen (hex) socket
Flathead screwdriver
and some good fingers
Start by Removing these two clips that hold your hood latch cable and washer fluid hose.
Notice the clips that were removed
Next remove the two 12mm bolts that hold the hood onto the hinge. Do one at a time as it will make it easier to install the next piece.
This we will call bracket 'A' which mounts to the hood hinge. Pivot ball on top, facing the center of vehicle.Mount Bracket 'A' to the drivers side of the hood hinge. It should look like this.
Notice the brackets and bolts shown for next part.
Bracket 'C' is installed as shown under the fender with the little handle facing forwards. Make sure the last bolt is on the outside when installing and slide in where red arrow is showing.
Next place Bracket 'B' against the rail where you removed the two clips earlier. **Make sure notch is facing upwards** Use two 5mm allen bolts with a washer on each to tighten Bracket 'B' against the rail catching the nuts on Bracket 'C'. Make sure you reroute your hood cable and washer fluid line through the notch on Bracket 'B'.
Lube pivot ball points
remove clip before installing. When you put this this onto the pivot ball make sure it snaps into place before re-installing the clip
When installing the damper assembly the rod should be facing down with the Tom's logo facing you. And thats it. Now the other side is a repeated process except there are no clips on the passenger side to worry about
ENJOY these wonderful things to hold your hood from now on
FINISHED PRODUCT LOOKS AND PERFORMS WAY BETTER!
