Sure it isn't as fun but equipment management is usually more important than that extra .1 second per lap. Besides, I was under the assumption this was personal/hobby pursuits, $25k of tires wouldn't get you very far in most competitive series.
Most people aren't replacing tires yearly either, even with track days
