So I finished up my tail lights this morning.
I feel like I should have put a few more coats of red but I didn't want to lay it on too thick and have it start to peel. In direct sunlight they're not as deep red as I would like. They still look 1000x better though so IDC.
Paint Used
- Duplicolor Metalcast
- Krylon Crystal Clear Gloss
- Meguirs Plastic Polish
Method- Mask surrounding area
- Mineral spirits wipe down (with gloves)
- I did NOT pre-sand the plastic
- 5 red coats total (3 light & 2 heavy)These went on matte and I got scared. The clear will bring back the clarity.
- 10-15mins in between light coats with blow dryer
- 20-30 mins in b/w heavy coats
- 4 coats of Clear (the last heavy coat started to run a bit but you can't really see it until get really close at the right angle)
- The last heavy coat of clear I let sit over night.
- 2000 grit wet sand to get out the fish eyes
- Meguirs Plastic Polish
- Meguirs Quick Detailer
