First and foremost it's just a car. A method of transportation from point A to point B.
Let's be real here. It's a cheap car that rich family's can afford to give to their kids as birthday or graduation gifts. The receivers may not have even known the cars existed or care about them.
I personally bought one because well it was shinier than the used R3 on the dealers lot that day. Either choice would have made me happy. I love my BRZ but I never read one article about them until I bought mine.
IMO those of us who don't track the car are not appreciating it for what it was meant to be. It's a entry level auto cross car. Designed to be fun and balanced but not dangerous in the hands of inexperienced drivers. This is of course just my opinion.
