When sitting still, in neutral, and you floor the accelerator. The compressor will not turn off, but if you engage the clutch and floor it. The compressor will turn off because you are requesting more power from the engine.

Normally I can't tell when the compressor turns off other than feeling the cool air turning to warm air, but that that is a delayed test.

I am sure that it turns off after 4-5k RPMs or so, but not for sure. At least not without looking at the ECU's code.
