The first few days I had it I seriously considered taking it to the dealer because I thought something was wrong with it. Since the car had 120 miles on it when I bought it, I thought maybe the dealers were using it for joyrides and were abusive with it. I never did take it in, though. I made sure to stay below 4000 rpm during the break-in, but if a few asshats were in it before me and treated her bad, how would I know? I guess I could go to the dealership and see if they have a brand new one I could listen to and compare. We'll see.
First off, you need to realize that these cars have very minimal insulation. You're sitting basically right next to the transmission and the noises the vibration comes right through the car and is easily heard inside. Where the front-wheel-drive Yaris has a cable shifter and the noise and vibrations are not transmitted into the cabin of the car. All the mechanical noises and feedback you hear and feel are what you should get in a sports car.
Not much is isolated from the driver.. Which is a good thing in this type of car..
