If chevy can sell a Turbo Sonic for $16k there is plenty of room for an entry level rwd car.
The FRS is expensive because of the FR layout, drivetrain (the FA20 is an expensive engine, as is the Asin tranny, and torsen diff), the obsession with low cog, 200hp/2L out of an NA boxer, and ULEV-ishness.
Take a Sonic with its Turbo 1.4L and put the engine/transaxel in the rear. Instant entry level rwd sportscar. Think budget MR-S.
