I have a feeling the business model for the new NSX is that it will not generate any profit for Honda (or perhaps even lose money). The only way Honda can justify the R&D cost is by making it hybrid-electric and hope that this technology will one day trickle down to its volume sellers/profit base.

This would be similar to the original NSX, which had fairly advanced technology like VTEC, which eventually made its way to Civics and Accords.

Just my guess though.
