You can destroy cats with a lean condition because of high EGT. I would say since your engine was miss firing under load at high rpms.. You caused the cats to fail from the excessive heat under those conditions..
I'm not saying that's what exactly happened.. But it seems logical after seeing the damage done..
Doesn't sound like they want to give in one bit for your cause.
