I just doubt highly the possibility of a Turbo BRZ STI for this generation.
As I said before, this car is selling well even with the "not enough power" complain from Magazines, reviews, customers. tS versions like this one will only help to hype up even more the car, but that's not going to stop anyone from getting their BRZ as soon as they can.
Financially speaking and as a business, developing a full STI version with a turbo charged engine, will mean that the car will cost close to or above $35000. Toyota and Subaru both know that at that price range, the profitability of such a project goes down quite a bit, because the volume of sales of a vehicle like that are very low compared to base models.
1) It appeals mostly to enthusiasts.
2) It competes with an entire new segment of powerful sports cars. From muscle cars, to real sports cars like the 370z. Not to mention the used car market that allows you to have Porsche Cayman Ss, M3s, C63s, etc.
All of the sudden the car is no longer a bargain, but rather has to stand on its own, both in reviews and actual performance.
Lets face it, 0-60 and 1/4 in reviews matter for sales, A LOT. It might not matter to you or me, it might not matter to the "real enthusiasts" but we are the minority.
Think about it, the WRX currently does 0-60 in 5.1, the STI is somewhere between 4.5 to 4.7. Those are respectable numbers, so it can get by. What do we expect of a STI BRZ when the base is doing 6.5, maybe...maaaybe 5.4?? That's still slower than most sedans out there, like Altimas and Accords V6s.
I know, 0-60 doesn't really matter when the car is that much fun, whatever, the reality is strictly from a business standpoint, those are selling points for a sports car, if you can't deliver a good performing sheet for $35k, then your sales market is going be greatly diminished, of an already smaller segment.
