For me it's a safety issue. If I need to pass someone, I want it to be over with quickly.
On my test drive (I do this with any vehicle), I like to be going 50-60 on a highway and punch it. If it doesn't accelerate enough to push me back in my seat a little, it's too under powered for my tastes.
