People that have no background in engineering or knowledge about the car business should stop making ignorant assumptions. Based on the comments about vehicle pricing and conversion rates it's as if people don't have a clue about how cars are priced in different markets. If only it was as simple as converting a currency.
Do you not realize how cheap it is to produce a car? They could easily give us a $30k FI BRZ and still turn a profit if they wanted to. To give you an idea, it costs less that $10,000 to manufacture a BMW 5 Series.
1) this car already handles amazingly well, so what's the point with these suspension mods
2) people oogling over a big brake kit? WTF does a 200 hp car need a big brake kit for?
50+ hp or go home if you ask me.

Of course they can, but why would they?
1) BRZs/FR-Ss are a hit, not just in Japan but in USA and Western Europe. Regardless of the "but power" argument of more articles and reviews, everysingle one was praising the car almost as the second coming.
2) Sales are still raising, so they haven't even seen a peak. Why would they change something when the base model even with its "power lacking, and performance dip" is still selling well. It's a new platform, it's not like the new BMW 3 series F30, where they have to release the M3 soon, because there is people waiting to buy it, because they know it exists, so doesn't make sense having that customer hanging with cash in hand when there is competition out there. In this case, it's different, they can (and should) take their time revising the platform, adding slightly special version like this one, and eventually investing money in improving it and releasing a full-on upgraded version.
3) Subaru will be praying in his new WRX release. Yes, it's 4-door, yes it's more functional and day driver, but there is still a lot of people who would wait and even buy a FI BRZ instead of a WRX. You can argue the differences between both cars, but you can't deny from a business stand point, it doesn't make sense overlap a platform with another, specially considering that the first is selling incredibly well and the former NEEDs to sell incredibly well to justify the redesign and entirely new chassis (no longer impreza)
So yeah, you are right, they can release one for close to $30k, but they won't. It doesn't make sense financially as a business, because you and me are buying their base BRZs right now, even if we are not completely happy with the power.
My guess in is not even this first generation of BRZs will see a STI variant. All we will see is these tS version and STI accessories. Debuting the second generation BRZ 5 years later of its launch with rumors of an actual STI version makes A LOT more sense in terms of marketing.
