Actually, Corn Ethanol is cheaper to grow and distill than Gasoline. From actually looking into current costs and the market. Due to a difference in BTU content and market prices, it varies which is cheaper to use on a cost per mile basis. E85 is taxed too and some states even tax E85 by gallon instead of by BTU content. Making the effective tax higher than Gasoline.
Saying E85 is heavily subsidized while Gasoline is heavily taxed is ridiculous, IMHO. They're both fairly heavily taxed at the pump and they both receive subsidies. Which is more is heavily debated but saying one is subsidized when the other is heavily taxed? That is clear personal bias.

Factory stock the car is tuned for E10. An aftermarket tune is essential if you want to run E85.
