Little trick I learned was letting the clutch go really slow, which moves the car like as in an Automatic when you release the brakes.

It isn't one then the other, it's more like a balancing act. After driving manual for long enough it just becomes second nature and you can feel when the clutch begins to catch and that's when you balance it with the gas before the revs drop.
