I think a core issue here is CHRA sizing. The 2871R, for instance, is a catch-all for about 17 different CHRA combinations on the Garrett catalog. We use two different types of the 2871, one that's good for about 39lb/min, and another that is good for 42~44lb/min depending on hotside. The turbo in our BRZ/FR-S turbo kit performs nearly as well as the 44lb/min 2871 CHRA from our testing, though it does get choked down at the upper boost levels (past 16psi). But then, for that matter we can run the larger 2871R at 45psi on the diesel racing trucks with our larger stainless steel hotsides.

We just believe in right-sizing a turbocharger for optimal performance. We could certainly throw a larger turbocharger at the twins, but daily driving enjoyment will suffer. Some people have different needs though, and I respect that.
