You got ripped off. Its just a HID bulb. You can get good ones for like $40 a pair. HID bulbs are cheap to replace and they will last at least 3 to 4 years...maybe longer. On my 8 year old 350Z I have replaced them once. Cost me $45. It is kind of a biotch to replace the bulbs on a 350z though but it is doable.
