I've heard that the gasoline is that goes to the stations can be whatever random stuff. But that each different brand (shell, chevron, etc) adds their own special type of detergents and additives. I would imagine with 87 or 89 octane the difference is quite minor. Biggest difference would be 91/93 (whatever the top fuel available is for the area)
