Should probably learn the basics of what makes a good picture: exposure, composition, lighting, etc...
But if you are just starting out, use Av mode or Aperature Priority mode. That's how I began. And most importantly, keep shooting.
Generally, the best times to shoot are at dawn and/or sunset. If you HAVE to shoot during the day, try to avoid direct sunlight (mid-day sun) because it causes harsh shadows.
If you want, just google the following items:
- Camera Exposure and components of exposure (ISO, shutter speed, aperature)
- Composition (Rule of Thirds)
- Lighting: Natural (sun, ambient) vs Artificial (Strobes, flashes)
- Landscape photography (how to get foreground and background sharp), since you probably want to shoot your car with an interesting background
