I haven't read the entire 2300+ posts (just a few pages) but here's my take:
I'm inclined to forgive the crickets as our cars' "quirk." Besides it's just some noise at idle and it doesn't even get into the cabin with the windows up. It doesn't cause the car to break down, lose power, cause damage to other parts, alter performance, be unsafe, etc.
Maybe our twins will go down in history as the one that had the crickets, something we can all laugh about when we're old and gray. I'm even inclined to have decals made that says "got crickets?" or "crickets inside" just for the humor of it.
Before getting my BRZ, the other option I was going for was the 3-door Audi A1 (yeah I know...glad I didn't go that route, but the STronic DCT was yummy...I digress...). I was reading their forums for a while and rattling windows when partially open was a common problem. I wouldn't want that, and dare I say that our crickets are the lesser evil. My point is: no car is perfect. I'm glad that the only problem we have in our cars is "just a little noise." Otherwise, its a beautiful, wonderful car from headlight to exhaust tip that makes us smile each time we get behind the wheel...
