The short answer is it depends. You can't lump all springs together, and you can't lump all coilovers together. There's a wide range of both.

Also, our car technically comes with coilovers, they just aren't adjustable. It's a coil over the shock.

Generally, yes...a coilover has firmer spring rates than a regular spring set-up and can feel stiffer if the valving is not good. But sometimes it is good.

For longevity it depends.

I'm gonna write a post on springs vs. coilovers soon.
