That sounds super sketchy and makes absolutely no sense. My mat was in a plastic bag in the trunk. It's fabric with a rubber backing just like the regular FRS trunk mat except with SC10N stiching. Sounds more likely like someone at the dealership jacked the mat hoping you wouldn't notice and now they are covering their asses.
Dealerships do sketchy things. When I went to sign for my car, it had 6 miles and when I came back to pick it up the next day it has 8. Someone took it on a 2 mile joyride. I asked about it and they told me they had to go fill it up with gas which I know is a lie since it was full when I checked it out. But whatever...if I worked at a dealership I probably would have wanted to drove it around too.
