No. I've owned two direct injection sports cars: 2007 sky redline and 2007 335i. I've removed all "sound deadening" from both cars engines. Which on the sky was made from the same material that lines most hoods and then a plastic engine cover. On the 335i, it's a plastic engine cover with rubber seals on the side. The normal sound of a HP fuel system is a ticking sound, much like a ticking valve. NOT the crickets heard in many YouTube videos. And it certainly doesn't get better or worse with the type of fuel you use. I bought my sky prior to the big fuel change to 10% ethanol. There was a decrease in HP with the new fuel mix, but no change in the noise or the sound of crickets. This was on a turbo 2.0 4 cylinder DI engine created by GMs European division back in '07. So there is NO reason any of you should be experiencing crickets on a 2013 DI engine put together by two engine geniuses like Subaru and Toyota. Personally, I hope they get it fixed for 2014. Anyone that says this is a normal noise, is either inexperienced, or buying-in to the stall tactics the dealerships are feeding them. Don't beat the car for this tiny flaw, but certainly don't dismiss this as normal and delay a fix any further.
