When mine failed it did so after completing the query ECU process successfully and flashing about 50% of the rom. Hopefully the new cable fixes it, although it looks like a lot of OBD2 ports on these cars are having their pins stretched out. Certain adapters work better than others in my car, that is for sure.
Once i verify my port is good and whether or not i need to repin it, i'll be plugging in an OBD2 extension cable that i keep permanently connected, then do all my plugging/unplugging on the other end of the cable, that way the cars port doesn't get worn by repeated plugging/unplugging, instead the extension cable does.
