For the first year or three after I converted to manual, I used to say the same thing to manual-curious people. Now, 6 years into only having manual vehicles, I no longer say this. Reason being is that now I'm very used to manuals, so on the rare occasion I'm driving an automatic and sitting in stop-and-go traffic, the auto actually has the audacity to try to drive into the car in front of me without me telling it to do that. It pisses me off!! Holding the brake down
is less work than feathering the clutch, but I'm proof you can be used to it to the point of completely not noticing it until your leg begins to burn. And if I've been in a traffic jam long enough for my leg to start burning, I've got other things to worry about than my leg.
Plus, that's just an excuse to play the beloved How Coordinated Are You With Your Right Foot Game! You stall, you besmirch your family.
