It should still happen on any shift in any gear since the load is based on RPMs and not gears.

Right, but the detonation should be quite noticeable (popping/backfire) correct? I shift quite often in the 5200+ rpm range from 1-2 and 2-3. I can only imagine lots of people are doing this as well besides me and I have never heard a detonation occur. It seems like this would be happening a lot and there would be tons of failures vs just a handful that have been reported here??
