From what I have seen on this thread and others, 2-cycle engine oil can help, but is best avoided since it basically introduces crap into the engine that isn't supposed to be there. In general, fuel additives don't do much to help the car, and are mostly a waste of money.
For me, the best solution at this point is to just leave it be. A couple users have mentioned that once they get up there in miles (most >10k), the crickets simply disappear. Patience appears to be a virtue in this case
