Have you extracted the files from the RAR file or just copied the RAR file to the SD card - if you have you need to extract the files from the RAR file and put those on the SD card. If you have then maybe extract the files to your computer first and then copy them to the SD card. Perhaps try another SD card as well.
Don't take offense at the above. I am just trying to work out what you may have done wrong. I was new to all this and made some dumb mistales - like starting with the unit on before pressing menu and power and wondering why it wouldn't work, pushing a micro SD card into the slot that wasn;t the SD card one and it disappearing into the unit, not realising you needed a bluetooth dongle... Was all new to me!

No need to worry about offending me. I feel pretty sure that I made a dumb mistake somewhere in the process and am really hoping I won't have to buy a new unit because of it.
I have extracted the files to the SD card rather than just copy the RAR file. I inserted the SD card into the correct slot. I know this because it is the same slot I inserted the card into before when I got all the "successful" messages in green text before everything went blank. And I pushed the menu and volume buttons while the unit was off. The unit then came on with the blank screen and I held the buttons for another minute before letting go. I have tried 2 different SD cards and at first I was extracting the files to my PC then copying them to the card. This last time I extracted them directly to the card.
I just checked on it and it is still showing the blank screen.
