Here is the WIKI page about the VIN number
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Number"]Vehicle Identification Number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]
and it may be true that AUS uses a different numbering scheme. You might want to double check on it.
In the *Check digit calculation* it lists out how the calculation is performed. You might want to check your VIN number to see if:
* first it meet the same numbering schemes
* perform the calculation manually to verify the check digit
Again, different countries have different laws and processes so this is to consider. Furthermore, I think in NA there is also a reference/lot number for a Subaru vehicle that is different from VIN. Check yours to see if it meets the format.
Hope that helps.
