I was paying too much attention to these kind of things, but realized that you can't live your life like that. Just keep driving it, don't ignore obvious problems, bring up the issues at a dealer. We got new cars, it has warranty that we paid for, so I expect a reasonable service when something breaks. It is good idea to be aware about quirks or possible problems, but no reason to get obsessed with it.
This is my first Toyota (err Subaru), a lot people swear by them. If this car really ruins my day-to-day life, I think this may be the last of Toyota/Subaru cars for me. Maybe not the best car to go off, but after all Toyota put their name behind it, so I expect it to be no worse then their other cars.
