Personally, i think the seals are fine right up until the boundary layer breaks down, as it does during detonation, at which point they over heat and melt. So, in my opinion there are two issues, seal material and detonation prevention, that need to be addressed. Detonation will happen from time to time on any engine. The mapping change from the TSB was intended to help prevent detonation during a specific set of circumstances and probably should have been included in all factory tunes to begin with. But I do not think it is THE solution. It will certainly cut down on the number of cars that have this issue, but it will not prevent seal failure for everyone.
